Proposed Solar Energy Systems Zoning Ordinance Text Amendment

Please take notice that at their Regular Meeting held on September 6, 2023, and in accordance with the requirements set forth in Section 22 of the Charter Township Act, P.A. 359 of 1947, as amended, and Section 401 of the Zoning Enabling Act, P.A. 110, 2006, as amended, the Township Board of the Charter Township of Marquette, completed the second reading and adoption of zoning text amendments to the below Articles of the Marquette Charter Township Zoning ordinance, summarized as follows:

Article 15 - Principal Uses Permitted in Districts: 

Specifies the type of Solar Energy Systems allowed in each applicable zoning district, and specifies the type of approval required for each type of Solar Energy System. Accessory use systems are proposed to be permitted by right, while Principal use systems will be permitted through the special use permit process.

Article 16 - Detailed Use Regulations, Section 16.10:  Alternative Energy:  Defines and provides standards for the different types and sizes of Solar Energy Systems, as well as general standards for all Solar Energy Systems.

Article 23 – Nonconformities:

Provides that installation of Solar Energy Systems on a parcel with existing nonconforming status shall not be considered an expansion of said nonconformity.

The purpose of the adopted zoning text amendments is to define, permit, and regulate Solar Energy Systems in Marquette Township.  

The Marquette Township Zoning Ordinance, affected by the above noted text amendment is amended and the effective date and legal adoption is seven (7) days after the date of Publication of this Notice in the Mining Journal, as provided  under the aforementioned Charter Township Act and Zoning Enabling Act.
